Galway has long been known as the ‘cultural heart of Ireland’, and it’s events like the Baboró Arts Festival that have earned it such a deserved title. As the European Capital of Culture 2020, the city is a hub of activity… even more so than usual.

Baboró, now in its 23rd year, runs from October 14 to 20 and will bring the streets to life through theatre, dance, literature, and music. And while it may technically be a children’s festival, I have no shame in admitting that I wait all year for it. As the saying goes, you're only as old as you feel... Details of the 2019 programme were announced at the Galway City Museum on Monday, and it sounds like it’s going to be even bigger and better than before (if that’s possible?). This year has over 50 events organised across the city and county, so it’s time to get excited.

There will be a new dance show celebrating individuality from the acclaimed CoisCéim. The show, called Francis Footwork, is the second piece that CoisCéim will bring to the festival. Galway’s own Branar also have two shows planned. Rockin’ Rhymes, as well as Carnival of the Animals which sees Music for Galway and Baboró collaborate for the first time.
