From Christmas markets to fairy lights, the city was dubbed a festive favourite.

Galway has been named as Ireland’s favourite festive getaway.

A new survey by Leonardo Hotels found that 55% of respondents chose the city of the tribes as the perfect seasonal city break.

I mean, with its famous Christmas Market, fairy lights and romantic walks by the Corrib, it's hard to disagree!

The survey also revealed that 88% of Irish people plan to visit a Christmas market this year, with over half set to treat themselves to a staycation.

Galway came out on top again with 46% of the vote when asked which city throws the best festive party, likely due to its lively trad sessions in hotel bars.

Dublin followed with 38% for glamorous nights out and late-night singalongs on Grafton Street.

The survey further found that for many, Christmas travel plans start taking shape months in advance, but 26% admit they don’t make a move until early December, embracing a true last-minute getaway.

While hotel stays on Christmas Day aren’t especially common, 28% have treated themselves to a Christmas or New Year’s celebration away from home, proof that festive breaks are becoming increasingly popular.

Additionally, when asked which influential figures they trust most to guide their festive breaks, Vogue Williams (38%) and Graham Norton (29%) topped the list.

It's never too late for a festive break...
