This Castle In Westmeath Where Winston Churchill Once Stayed Is On Sale For €13 Million

An incredible Gothic Revival castle in up for sale for €13.5 million through Sotheby’s International Realty, and is expected to sell to an international buyer.

Famed as the place where Winston Churchill once stayed during the War of Independence, the castle is now the family home of former DCU president Ferdinand von Prondzynski.

It's an 18th Century Gothic Castle in Westmeath

Knockdrin Castle is one of the "finest picturesque castellated country houses built in Ireland during the first half of the nineteenth century", says Sotheby's.

Showstopping features include an ornate staircase, a ballroom, and a library 

The most striking feature at Knockdrin is the top-lit staircase made of carved oak, like the doors throughout the castle. Reception rooms on the ground floor include a reception hall, drawing room, dining room, ballroom and library, while the accommodation in the castle extends to some 19,375 square feet and provides seven bedrooms. 

And the castle is surrounded by a lake and lush woodland

The estate has over 1,000 acres and commercial woodland and a small lake.
