There are tonnes of beautiful walks you can do on this scenic little island of ours — like the
Divis Ridge Trail, the Kerry Way, and the Coumshingaun Loop Walk — but here's one that may have escaped your attention: the Cuilcagh Way.
The 7.4km mountain trail is made up of gravel track, exposed mountain path and boardwalk, with the total ascent being 550m. It's a
6-hour round trip to the summit of Cuilcagh Mountain.
This is for those hikers who
really wanna work up a sweat.
You'll even stumble upon some ancient Irish history as you climb, as you'll pass a Bronze Age burial mound when you're 666m above sea level.
Ultimately, you need to walk the Cuilcagh Way for the panoramic views you'll enjoy from the top, taking in wilderness as far as the eye can see and overlooking the 13,000-year-old Lough Atona.

Climb the stairway to heaven
This enormous stretch of boardwalk has been created to protect the surrounding area's rare blanket bog from erosion caused by walkers.
It is spectacular rain or shine
The weather in the area is extremely changeable, so come prepared for the anything. Your snaps will still look great though.
But on a sunny day, it's positively divine
