There’s A Gin And Cheese Festival On This Weekend And It Sounds Droolworthy

Picture this: You're snuggled on a picnic rug in the wild rustic landscape of Co. Clare, with a glass of craft Irish gin in one hand a chunk of St.Tola goat cheese in the other.

Sounds dreamy, doesn't it?

Well if you pop yerself on down to the Burren area this weekend that's exactly what will be in store for you, and much, much more.

The Burren Slow Food Festival is taking place from today until Sunday May 14th, and the theme for the festival this year is Gin and Raw Milk Cheese. Oh. YAS.

The tasty events kick off this evening at 6pm with a Seafood and Champagne Picnic on a boat underneath the high cliffs of Moher.

There'll be a Gin Tasting on Saturday featuring a good number of excellent Irish Gins, including fave brands Drumshambo Gunpowder Irish Gin, Dingle Gin, Blackwater Gin, and Shortcross Gin.

Top Irish cheeses will also be showcased and ready for nibbling, including Sabanero Artisan Cheese, Cratloe Hill Sheeps Cheese, Aillwee CaveGouda, Durrus Cheese, Corleggy Cheese, Bellingham Blue Cheese.

In case you haven't already realised, this is a foodie haven full of all things yummy and good.

Sunday gets even better with a special tasting of Póitín and Oysters, talks from Micil Irish Poitín and two oyster producers (Ciara O'Halloran from Flaggy Shore Oysters and Hugh O'Malley from Achill Oysters) who will be giving you an insight into oyster farming.

All that listening is thirsty work my friends, so bottoms up...

Other class events are also organised for the weekend, including a food preparation and fermentation workshop complete with pretty pottery.

Tickets for the festival are from about €10 for basic entry, with tastings, picnics and some talks costing extra.
