Seven Irish Food Businesses Ordered To Close Last Month Over Food Safety Concerns

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) reported tpday that seven Closure Orders and one Prohibition Order were served on food businesses during the month of May for breaches of food safety legislation.

Five Closure Orders were served under the FSAI Act, 1998 on:

• Maid of Erin (public house) (Closed area: food preparation area and activities; not including the service of drinks in the bar), 9/10 Church Street, Tipperary Town, Tipperary
• Flanreil Food Services Ltd (caterer), Kitchen and associated storage facilities occupied by Flanreil Food Services Ltd in O'Dwyers Public House, Strand Road, Portmarnock, Co. Dublin
• Tasty Bite (takeaway), Main Street, Manorcunningham, Donegal
• Tropica Asian Street Food (restaurant), 4-6 Westbourne Terrace, Quinsboro Road, Bray, Wicklow
• Zam Zam Kebab House & Takeaway, 30-31 High Street, Sligo

Two Closure Orders were served under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010 on:

• Londis (supermarket), (Closed Area: The basement food production kitchen only), 1-2, Atrium Building Carmenhall Road, Sandyford, Dublin 18
• Yo & More (Closed Area: Use of rear store/kitchen for production & storage of food & food related items), The Pavilions Shopping Centre, Swords, Co. Dublin

One Prohibition Order was served under the FSAI Act, 1988 on:

• Kokoro Sushi (takeaway), Unit N, Liffey Trust Centre 117-126 Sheriff Street Upper, Dublin 1

The prohibition order on Kokoro Sushi saw the withdrawal of foodstuffs stored in the freezer, including Salmon Mayonnaise x 27 bags, Smoked Salmon x 16 bags, Salmon Teriyaki x 12 bags, Raw Chicken x 12 bags, Raw beef x 6 bags.

Dr Pamela Byrne, CEO of FSAI, said: "It is of paramount importance that all food businesses must operate stringent food safety practices in order to ensure the food they are producing and selling to their customers is safe to eat."
