A newly established Irish company, Against The Tide, aims to unite sea swimmers, surfers, ocean lovers, and beachgoers through consciously created clothing.

Against The Tide Apparel, is the latest venture by Niamh and Joe. A new sustainable clothing brand, it's geared towards their fellow sea lovers... which, considering we live on a little island in the middle of the Atlantic, is probably the large majority of us.
Explaining a little behind the ethos of the clothing, it goes far beyond just looking good.
"We’re not going to get rich from this. Nor do we want to. As a species, we consume too much, but we also recognise clothing ourselves for warmth is a basic human need. People will continue to buy clothes and we want people to be more conscious about the clothing they do buy, whether from us or elsewhere."
How did all this come to be you ask? A very good question, and one that has a somewhat unexpected answer. Diagnosed with a rare form of migraine where she suffers paralysis on the right side of her face and body, Niamh has found sea swimming to be one of the most successful natural antidotes.
Telling me about their inspiration for the new project, Niamh said:
"The sea has had a profound impact on both our mental and physical health. It has given us so much. We want to do our part, however small, to protect it."
