Food and Drink
These two locations in Brittany are havens for foodies. Local delicacies include kouign amann, buckwheat crepes, cider and seafood platters, all of which you can try in these areas. Rennes is home to an array of fine bistros such as l’Arsouille, Bercail, le Globe, les Darons, le Café du Port and le Tire-Bouchon. Rennes is also home to Marché des Lices food market and a visit here allows your tastebuds to go wild with local flavours.
St-Malo old town is the perfect place to shop and taste local foodie delights. Visit La Maison du Beurre in Saint-Malo for artisan Breton butter. The master butter maker Jean-Yves Bordier is one of the few artisans using age-old techniques to make butter. Bordier butter is hand-shaped with little wooden paddles, and often flavoured with smoked salt, seaweed, buckwheat, or even raspberries. Head to La Maison du Sarrasin, a shop completely devoted to buckwheat and offering caramels, biscuits, flours, different kinds of butter, pasta… all incorporating buckwheat!
There’s literally a Creperie at every corner, so you can’t leave without tasting a traditional Breton galette (a buckwheat pancake), and the choice of restaurants is incredible with choices ranging from traditional French cuisine to seafood and everything in between.

Art and Culture
Both of these areas are a wonderful mix of contemporary and old-school. The Hôtel-Dieu de Rennes is a former maternity hospital and has been transformed into a slick spot combining bistro dining with sports such as climbing. The Contemporary Arts Biennial at the Ateliers de Rennes merges upcoming and established artists to create a cultural experience like no other in Europe. There's also La Criée in Rennes which holds exhibitions all year round.
Rennes is also home to some seriously beautiful and thought-provoking street art.

Sea Spray
Brittany has coastal stretches that seem to go on forever (over 1,700 miles, to be exact). Dotted with quaint coastal villages and islands you can skip over to for a day trip, this unique seascape offers an array of breathtaking views and exciting adventures such as seaside walks and hikes, stunning beaches, surfing, paddle boarding and glorious sunsets. Stand-up paddleboarding is also a really popular activity - particularly along the Saint-Malo seafront with its long sandy beaches sweeping east from the old town to the district of Rothéneuf. The Plage du Sillon stretches for three km along the edge of the town and there's a lovely walk from Les Charmettes Hotel that brings you via the long pedestrian promenade to the walled city.
