Dubliner Ann Eble, remembers finding a lump in her breast in early 2003: "...I’m quite big in the boobs, and I remember turning in the bed one night and feeling a lump. The next morning it just went out of my head! Then I was putting on false tan in my bedroom and I noticed huge veins on my chest.”
A positive attitude, the distraction of work, a focus on getting through and the reassurance and support of breast surgeon Professor Arnold Hill got Ann through some of the toughest moments on her breast cancer journey. Ann says the experience taught her to live in the moment, and trust the experts, saying "I am alive because of them.”
Ann has been in remission for 13 years and is a proud Great Pink Run Ambassador.
The money raised with the Great Pink Run will help Breast Cancer Ireland continue their pioneering research and awareness programmes nationally, which make a huge difference when it comes to sharing stories like Ann's and spreading awareness of the symptoms of breast cancer. Remember to check your breasts regularly, and become familiar with the signs of breast cancer outlined below.
