This young woman took to Instagram to explain her experience with racism in Ireland and why the black community in Ireland is now speaking out following the killing of George Floyd.
"Why the black community in Ireland is so triggered by what is happening in America."
Titled "Let’s Talk About The Elephant In The Room", Amanda Adé shared a video to Instagram, writing, "Unpopular Opinion: Racism is just as real everywhere. Even here in Ireland. And it’s up to everybody to make that change. We stand with our brother and sisters in the US. Praying for peace over that nation."
In the video, she explains, "To insinuate that racism has any borders is just completely ignorant and doesn't make any sense to me."
She adds, "The only thing stopping me from being under that knee is that my parents chose to come here instead of there.
"You face it every day, no matter where you are on this planet, you face it on a daily basis.
"A lot of people aren't conscious that they have a privilege which we, as black people, don't enjoy.
"A lot of people don't realise the constant pressure black people are under every single day. I walk into a room as a black person and automatically, I'm representing my whole race. I have to make a conscious decision to act a certain way.
"We walk into a shop and the security guard leaves his post and actively follows you around the shop. It's assumed from the moment I walk in, due to the colour of my skin, that I'm a thief, that I'm going to steal."
