A positive step on the road towards streamlining Ireland's public transport system.
Getting around this island of ours via public transport can be frustrating at the best of times. Sporadic bus timetables, train stations that take 14 years to build and the inability to pay fares with the tap of a phone or contactless card all contribute to a system that's far from perfect, but one small step for the Aircoach could be a giant leap for passenger kind as it's been confirmed you can now use your Leap Card aboard the airport-bound service.
Aircoach have confirmed that Leap Cards will now be accepted on all their routes, in a bid to make journeys easier to plan for customers.
Leap cards can now be used to purchase any Aircoach ticket and for routes where the Free Travel Pass is accepted, and customers can now tap their card on ticket machines.
Speaking about the move, Aircoach managing director Dervla McKay said:
“We were the first Irish coach and bus operator to accept contactless payments on board our vehicles in 2018, and we’re constantly looking to improve the customer experience.
“The Leap Card has been a great success story and joining the Leap Card system will allow our customers to link up seamlessly with the public transport infrastructure.
"While this first phase enables users to use their Leap Card as an ‘e-purse’, we are already working on our next development phase to offer customers fantastic savings from schemes such as Student/Young Adult fares etc. We are confident the Leap Card will be a win-win for everyone involved.”
