WATCH: The Republic And Northern Ireland Football Teams Came Together For A Great Cause Today

In recent days, you may have come across a number of news articles marking the 25th anniversary of the infamous Northern Ireland v Republic Of Ireland match at Belfast's Windsor Park in 1993.

For those of us who are too young to remember, a picture has been painted of a poisonous atmosphere with tensions on and off the pitch simmering as the two international teams from this island went head-to-head in a crucial World Cup qualifier.

This Thursday, a quarter of a century later, the two sides will meet again in what many would expect to be a somewhat less hostile affair and players from both squads displayed exactly that example today.

Two days ahead of the game, the Republic's Shane Duffy and David Meyler as well as Northern Ireland's Jonny Evans and Steven Davis came together to pay a visit to Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin.

Speaking about the visit, Dr. Cormac Owens said that "seeing the four guys together is inspirational to us. There's been a bit of history for lots of different reasons but if we can use this moving forward to help improve the care of the kids and minimise the suffering their families go through than that would be a pretty amazing achievement."
