Here’s How Often You Should Actually Be Washing Your Bathroom Towels And We’re All Disgusting

A Reddit thread about how often you should wash your bathroom towels was met with some strange replies.

The person in question was asking the internet: "How many days do you use a towel before shoving it in the washing machine? 2..3…4..5..6..7…days?"

But they were horrified to get responses like, "days, you mean months, surely," and "Err, I dunno, like when the bathroom starts to smell like old towels? Month or so I’d guess."

But, this is the wrong way to measure when your towel needs washing and according to a microbiologist, you're supposed to wash your bathroom towels every two to three days.

Dr. Gerba, a microbiologist, told Time: "After about two days, if you dry your face on a hand towel, you're probably getting more E. coli on your face than if you stuck your head in a toilet and flushed it."

Ewwwwww.

The American Cleaning Institute, (yes, this is a thing) however, suggests that washing the towel after "three or four uses" is acceptable.

So to be on the safe side, wash it every two to three days, or three to four uses, whichever comes first.
