Cast your eyes to the skies.
Venus will be visible beside the moon for star-gazers this evening (June 22). It was also visible last night on the Summer Solstice, but after tonight it won't be visible again from Earth for another year.
It will appear like a small bright star to the right of the moon as Venus is approximately 200 times further from Earth than the moon is.
According to
The Journal, Founder and Chairman of Astronomy Ireland David Moore said this of the upcoming Venus sighting:
"It’s 100 times brighter than the brightest stars in the sky, so you won’t have any problem seeing it.
"It’s a planet so if you look at it with a telescope you’ll see that it has a disc, which is roughly a crescent shape.
"If Venus was as close to us as the moon is it would look four times bigger than the moon."
So there you have it; make sure you turn your eyes to the skies this evening.
