US Airport Security Now Telling Passengers To Remove Books And Food From Their Bags

Airports and arenas around the world have experienced heightened security measurements following recent terrorist attacks - leaving airline passengers to remove shoes, belts and electronic devices from bags at airline security.

However, while those activities are now considered the norm - it appears that more items are set to be added to 'removal' lists, one of those being books.

Security staff at certain American airports have begun searching for books, magazines and papers at checkpoints under a new pilot scheme that could see security measures for US bound flights become even more invasive.

According to Independent.ie, airline passengers in Missouri, Los Angeles, Boise, Colorado Springs, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Boston Logan, Lubbock, Munoz Marin in Puerto Rico, Las Vegas McCarran and Phoenix Sky Harbour underwent separate checks for books and food items last month.

Upon entering security checks at the aforementioned airports, passengers will be asked to remove books and food and place them into separate bins. Airport staff will then begin fanning through the book's pages.

It has also been revealed that certain reading materials - such as books based around political or religious content - will get more attention from staff than others.
