Met Éireann predicts mild and humid weather with heavy, thundery showers and the risk of spot flooding is on the way this weekend. First a blight warning and now this... the good times just keep on coming, don't they?
Better batten down the hatches as Met Éireann has issued a weather advisory for the whole country and it looks as though a thunderstorm could be on the way.
According to the Met Éireann website:
"Prolonged thundery downpours this weekend, mainly in Munster and south Leinster on Saturday afternoon and evening. Becoming widespread on Sunday afternoon and evening, with a risk of spot flooding."
Heavy showers are expected to develop in southern areas this afternoon, continuing into this evening and overnight when they'll merge into longer spells of rain with a chance of thunder and localised flooding also a concern. Sunday looks to bring much of the same - with a mostly cloudy start to the day and prolonged patchy rain.
In effect from midday today the weather advisory is in place until Sunday at 9pm.
The national forecaster also issued a potato blight warning for the country this weekend. Categorised under as an 'environmental warning', a notice on the Met Éireann website states that the weather conditions will be conducive to the spread of potato blight this weekend. Caused by a fungus-like organism, blight spreads rapidly in warm humid weather conditions.
