Picking an adult animated comedy to binge on these days can be a bit of a minefield. Back in the day, lovers of the genre could pick and choose between
The Simpsons, Family Guy and
South Park with a handful more thrown in for good measure.
Since the advent of streaming, those industry leaders have been joined by a whole host of popular shows like
Bob's Burgers, Rick And Morty and
Bojack Horseman among countless others.
If anyone thinks this influx makes for a crowded market then think again because Netflix has added a new animated sitcom into the mix over the past few days.
Created by Lisa Hanawalt, a producer on the aforementioned
Bojack,
Tuca & Bertie appears visually similar to its older Netflix sibling and borrows some of the same themes. However, while
Bojack focuses on the misadventures of a gruff male horse, T & B revolves around the lives of two 30-year-old female birds named, you've guessed it, Tuca and Bertie.
The pair appear to occupy the same world of Bojack, that is a place filled with anthropomorphic characters taking on the trials and tribulations that humans, and particularly women, face on a daily basis.
Since its release over the Bank Holiday weekend,
Tuca & Bertie has been getting rave reviews and currently holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Atlantic calls it a 'delightfully frenzied addition to the range of shows depicting female desire' while TV Club calls it 'vibrant, surreal and one of the best new shows of the year.'
