PIC: Irish People Are Very Angry With The Sun Newspaper’s Front Page

20th July 2018

09:12am BST

The Sun newspaper in the UK has had a real pop at Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar on Friday morning.

The front page of the newspaper describes the "Irish PM" as an "airhead" over alleged comments he made regarding brexit.

Varadkar is reported to have said that:

"The situation at the moment is that the UK is part of the single European sky. If they leave the EU they are not, and that does mean if there was a no-deal hard Brexit next March, the planes would not fly and Britain would be an island in many ways. If they want their planes to fly over our skies, they would need to take that into account."

The Sun, however, have say that the Taoiseach will "ban British planes as revenge for Brexit" and people were not happy with the way Leo Varadkar's comments were treated.

???? harsh much?! Again the British press show how classy & articulate the are when reporting on #Brexit . Can't imagine why isn't this in the Irish version @TheSun #airhead

Don’t buy The Sun.

Trouble with that is he did not threaten. But why let facts get in the way of a good dose of xenophobia

Mistake made. Clicked into the page and read some of the comments!! Bloody hell the English Sun can drum up some hatred!

Not very nice attack on @campaignforleo in tomorrow's English edition of @TheSun #Brexit https://t.co/Lc2Te1xUJw

It'll be interesting to see how Leo Varadkar responds to this, if he does.
