Hairdressers in Ireland could reopen three weeks earlier than planned, with the government considering a number of alterations to the current roadmap to recovery.
The
Sunday Independent reports today that the government is considering lifting a number of restrictions earlier than planned, including the 20km travel limit. The reopening of museums, galleries, hairdressers and other amenities could also be brought forward to the beginning of phase 3, which is due to begin on June 29. Currently, hairdressers are scheduled to open on July 20 as part of phase 4.
The 20km travel limit is due to replace the current 5km restriction on Monday, June 8 and is due to remain in place until July 20. However, the government is now looking at the possibility of scrapping the 20km limit at the end of phase 3, meaning people will be able to travel outside their own region from June 29. This is all subject to the spread of Covid-19 remaining suppressed.
Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan and An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar have both
stated their desire to accelerate the roadmap if it is safe to do so. Earlier this week, the Irish Hairdressers Federation said that it will be
presenting a list of 110 recommendations to the government to ensure that salons can open earlier than planned.
