The Government is considering bringing in changes to travel restrictions on Monday, April 12 rather than Easter Monday as expected.
An official announcement on the next phase of Covid-19 restrictions is expected later this evening and it's being reported that NPHET are very reluctant to see any significant change. The public health experts fear that doing so could lead to a new wave of Covid-19 infections that could last into the summer.
Although the current restrictions set to expire on Monday, April 5 (Easter Monday), the Government is considering keeping the 5km limit in place until Monday, April 12. From this date, people would be allowed to travel within in their county rather than remain inside their 5km radius.
It's part of a phased approach that the Government is considering, which would see restrictions (such as a return of construction and children's outdoor sports) eased on a week-by-week or fortnight-by-fortnight basis throughout April. An official announcement is expected at around 6pm this evening.
