It looks like we’re in for a freezing cold end to the bank holiday with temperatures predicted to drop as low as -4°C in parts of Ireland.
Last night got as cold as -2°C and tonight is looking even frostier.
Met Éireann said, "Tonight will be dry in most areas, with clear intervals, but cloud will increase from the Atlantic, bringing a little patchy light rain or drizzle to the west Connacht coast towards morning.
"Becoming breezy along Atlantic coasts, with freshening south to southeast winds, but winds elsewhere will remain light.
"Very cold away from Atlantic coasts, with frost and a risk of a few icy patches. Patches of mist and fog also. Minimum temperatures -4 to plus 2°C.”
Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly also reported that the first bit of snow has already started falling in some parts of the country as of Saturday morning.
But that was restricted to the mountains only, with fears of actual snow throughout the country looking like they won’t materialise this weekend after all.

Even still, it looks like we’ll need to keep those winter jumpers handy for the foreseeable…
