The Balearic Islands of Majorca, Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera are holiday favourites among us Irish but holidaying there is going to get a lot more expensive.
The Express is reporting that the islands have doubled their daily tax on tourists starting from the beginning of May until October 31.
This is done during peak tourist season where a tax levy of up to €4 per person, per day, is put on all visitors to the island - the tourist also subject to 10% tax
Meaning you could be forking out an extra €50 or so on top of all your other expenses just for being there in person.
it's called 'Tax for Sustainable Tourism' and was originally introduced in July 2016 to help against the environmental impact that tourism had on the islands.
The islands have seen a major tourist boost in the last number of years which has put serious strain on their road and water infrastructure, hence why the tax was introduced.
"The first and most important purpose [of the tax] is the protection, preservation and recovery of the environment," states the Balearics government.
"If more people come to visit us in autumn, winter or spring, we can create more jobs."
Broken down, the tax ranges from €1 for hostels, €2 for budget hotels, €3 for 3 and 4 star hotels and €4 for 5 star hotels but children under 16 do not have to be pay the tax.
