Two Men Who Set Speeding “Record” Only Banned For Two Years On Irish Roads

Once you start speeding behind the wheel of the car, you're not only endangering your own life, but also everyone else in the car and anyone who is sharing the road with you at that given moment. 

We often see speeding offences where the drivers in question were maybe 10, 20 or 30 km/h over the speed limit. 

National Slow Down took place on Friday and was held over a 24 hour period between 7am Friday 25th and 7am Saturday 26th May.

In total, An Garda Síochána and GoSafe checked 132,188 vehicles, detecting 211 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

Just days after the operation, The Herald is reporting that a pair of workmates have been banned off Irish roads after probably setting a "record" for speeding. 

The construction workers hit speeds of up to 220km/h on a national road around Leixlip's N4 which has a speed limit that varies from 80-100km/h.

The court found that they "drove without regard to other road users" and continued to overtake each others on the inside lane. 

Although the pair said that they would lose their jobs if they lost their licenses, the judge refused to reduce the charges as both their speed and manner of driving was a matter of concern that couldn't be looked at lightly. 

They were fined €250 each and banned for two years.
