One Of The World Cup’s Leading Contenders Have Sacked Their Manager On The Eve Of The Tournament

Nobody knows about chaos on the eve of World Cups more than Republic Of Ireland fans. Back in 2002, Roy Keane left the squad in the Asian Pacific island of Saipan and civil war erupted back home. Well, now, 16 years later, it seems the infamous incident has been trumped.

Literally one day before the 2018 World Cup starts in Russia, Spain have taken the decision to sack their manager Jolen Lopetegui. It move comes after it emerged yesterday that Lopetegui had agreed to become the new manager of Real Madrid after the World Cup finishes.

It now seems that he'll be able to take up his new post sooner than expected. It's thought that the Spanish Football Federation were unhappy that Lopetegui negotiated with Madrid behind their back. The decision looks to have left Spain's preparations in disarray. The 2010 winners are one of the favourites to lift the trophy on July 15 and kick off their tournament against Portugal this Friday at 7pm in a match shown live on RTÉ 2.
