It's unlikely that Spain, Portugal or France will be appearing on the green travel list.
This is according to a leading doctor who has warned the Irish public that these popular destinations for Irish holiday-makers are “not at a safe level” of Coronavirus cases.
According to the
Irish Times, Dr Cillian De Gascun who is chair of the expert advisory group to NPHET, has pointed out that Spain, Portugal and France do not meet the requirements to appear on the green list based on the rate of Coronavirus infections.
The government is set to announce the green list on Monday as part of a plan to ease travel restrictions. Countries with similar infection rates to Ireland will be deemed safe to travel to, and holidaymakers will not be expected to self-isolate for 14 on returning from a country on the list.
According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, Spain, France, Portugal and Croatia have significantly higher rates of infection than Ireland.
Countries likely to appear on the green list with a similar or lower number of Coronavirus cases to Ireland include Norway, Finland, Malta and Cyprus.
