It's one of the biggest snow storms that Ireland has ever seen and Storm Emma seems to have reached its peak on Thursday night and Friday morning when snow of up to 40cm fell throughout Ireland.
And if you thought that would be the end of it, you could be wrong as Weather Expert Alan O'Reilly told The Irish Sun that the effects of Storm Emma could last well into the start of next week.
He told the publication that: “We are experiencing a historic snow blast, this is the main event, the biggie. It’s going to snow right into Friday. There will be snow in many areas on Friday afternoon, right into Friday evening.
“And it doesn’t look like there will be a thaw really on Saturday, very little if any thaw on Sunday.
“Temperatures are going to stay very low. What I picked up on the weather models is that next week is going to stay cold. Not as cold, but it is going to stay cold. So we could be looking at lying snow for many areas for a while yet.
“What we know at the minute is that the temperatures are going to stay around freezing right through to Monday or Tuesday.
“There is not going to be a great quick thaw. There will be more problems for many days yet.”
So while there may not be any additional snow falling on the ground from tomorrow onwards, Storm Emma could leave her mark on the country until Monday at the very latest.
A Status Red Weather Warning is currently in place for Munster, Leinster and Galway until 6pm on Friday evening but will it be the last red warning we see today?
