PIC: Large Snake Found On The Beach By Irish Coast Guard

The Irish Coast Guard has confirmed it discovered a snake on a beach in Co Cork that was originally feared to be highly venomous.

The reptile was discovered by a member of the Coast Guard in Youghal and said to have measured 1.5 metres.

At first it was reported to have been a deadly Turtle Headed Sea Snake, although thankfully it turned out that it's more to likely be a California King Snake.

These snakes are not harmful to humans and are actually sold in pet shops around Ireland.

The Irish Cost Guard tweeted a photo of the snake along with a pun-filled message that said, ‘A slippery start to 2019 for the Irish Coast Guard team in Youghal with the discovery of a sea snake.

‘The national Coast Guard control centre was informed, due to the unavailability of St. Patrick, Cork County Council was requested. Time well serpent by the team...

‘If you see someone (human or reptile) in trouble, on the Coast, Cliffs, Beach or Water, don’t hesitate dial 112 and ask for Coast Guard.’
