Ryanair Flight Diverted To Remove Drunk Irish Couple From Plane

An "drunk" Irish couple were removed from a Ryanair plane after they became aggressive during the flight.

The pair were flying from Alicante to Dublin on Wednesday afternoon when they began arguing with each other. 

The Irish Mirror reported that sources aboard the flight said the couple were being "aggressive" and were "arguing violently". 

Just one hour into the three-hour flight, the pilot made an unscheduled landing in Seve Ballesteros-Santander Airport where local police were waiting. 

The couple were removed from the plane, and they are now facing a fine for breaching air security.

The size of the fine is to be determined by the Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency (AESA).

A spokesperson for Ryanair said: "This flight from Alicante to Dublin (10 Jan) diverted to Santander after two passengers became disruptive inflight."

"The aircraft landed normally and the passengers were removed and detained by police upon arrival, before the aircraft continued to Dublin."

They added that they won't tolerate "unruly or disruptive behaviour", and that the safety and comfort of their customers, crew and aircraft is their main priority.

"This is exactly why we are calling for significant changes to prohibit the sale of alcohol at airports, such as a two-drink limit per passenger and no alcohol sales before 10am."

They added: "It’s incumbent on the airports to introduce these preventative measures to curb excessive drinking and the problems it creates, rather than allowing passengers to drink to excess before their flights."
