Recreational Drug Use Is On The Rise In Ireland, According To New Figures

New details on drug use in Ireland have been released as part of a new survey and the findings are pretty startling.

The All-Ireland Drug Use Survey was undertaken between 2011 and 2015 and found that drug usage prevalence rate rose from seven per cent in 2011 to nine per cent last year.

One of the most shocking statistic contained in the report was that 24 per cent of all respondents had used anti-depressants.

Research also revealed that just under a third of those aged between 15 and 64 years of age have used cannabis, while ecstasy usage jumped dramatically from 0.9% to 4.4%.

A total of 22.7 per cent of men between the ages of 25 to 34 years admitted to having taken ecstasy.

One in four males said they had used illegal drugs in the past four years, in comparison to one in eight females.

The survey also discovered that cannabis is the most popular recreational drug in Ireland.
