Cork takeaway Speedo, located on Tuckey Street in the city centre, has been ordered to close by the FSAI due to 'rodent activity and droppings'.
Speedo is one of number of businesses nationwide that have been issued with closure orders in the Food Safety Authority of Ireland's latest update. In the report on Speedo, a popular takeaway known for serving pizza and kebabs, the FSAI said that 'fresh rodent droppings were present on the floor in the upstairs dry goods and raw meats preparation area". The report added that 'the evidence of fresh rodent activity and droppings poses a risk to the contamination of foodstuffs which is a grave and immediate danger to public'.
Speedo has reopened since being issued with the closure order. Today's FSAI update also included
details of three sushi takeaways in Dublin which were ordered to close after they were found to be operating from a bedroom in a house. Meanwhile, The Funky Skunk in Cork was also found to have a 'presence of live rodent plus evidence of extensive rodent dropping and activity which posed a grave and immediate danger to public health'.
