Ireland is bracing itself for the arrival of Storm Gareth which is expected to bring gusts of up to 130km/h to the country.
A status orange wind warning is in place from midday for the counties of Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo with the region expected to see 'westerly winds reach mean speeds of 65 to 75km/h with damaging gusts reaching 110 to 130km/h. There is also the risk of coastal flooding due to high seas.'
Also from midday, a status yellow warning is in place for the rest of the country. It reads 'westerly winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h and gusts of 90 to 110km. There is a risk of coastal flooding due to high seas along Atlantic coasts.'
Carlow Weather has posted some images to Facebook which show 'strong winds countrywide this afternoon and evening with Northwest seeing strong to severe gusts for many hours.'
Gardaí have advised motorists to 'exercise caution while using the roads.' The orange warning is in place until 9am tomorrow and the yellow warning is valid until midday tomorrow.
