OFFICIAL – A Referendum On The Eighth Amendment Will Take Place On May 25

The Government has confirmed that a referendum to repeal the eighth amendment will be held on Friday May 25, the Irish Independent reports.

Legislation on the vote has passed through the Seanad this afternoon and Health Minister Simon Harris is expected to hold a press conference to formally announce the date. 

Campaigners on both sides now have eight weeks before Irish people go to the polls to decide whether to repeal the eighth amendment. 

Fianna Fáil senator Catherine Ardagh has urged voters to 'Take the time to sit down and learn it', while Senator Ronan Mullan feels that both sides 'need equal time in the media.'
