If you spot a bright presence passing over Irish skies this weekend, you haven't just spotted Santa getting his Christmas deliveries in early.
Astronomy Ireland has confirmed that a 'Christmas Comet' will pass overhead and should be at its brightest around mid-December. Comet Wirtanen will fly closer to Earth than it ever will in our lifetime and it's predicted that it should even be visible from city suburbs.

1. This Fri evening, 14th Dec. see the Christmas comet at a "Comet Watch" at @AstronomyIRL HQ.
2. Next Mon evening, 17th Dec, hear Kevin Nolan of @TPSIreland talk about the @NASAInSight mission.
To mark the occasion, Astronomy Ireland is inviting the public to join them at its HQ in Blanchardstown for 'Comet Watch'. Skywatchers will able able to get a close look at the event through telescopes and it sounds like an opportunity not to be missed.
Comet Watch will take place this Friday December 14 and people are encouraged to gather their friends for the unmissable event. More information can be found here and remember, kids - keep watching the skies.
