Looks like Cork city is getting a bit of a makeover with the announcement that a €50 million redevelopment of the Metropole Hotel will soon be in the works.
The Evening Echo say that the hotel's owners plan to refurbish and expand the 120-year-old hotel, along with building a brand new urban hotel, 'The M', which will be on an adjacent site near Harley Street, with the two hotels linked through a first floor bridge.
The development will see more than 400 hotel bedrooms delivered, and while the historic front section of the Metropole facing MacCurtain Street will still look the same, the rear section will be replaced with a new six-storey building and a seventh-floor penthouse.
It will also be bringing an elevated rooftop bar and upgraded spa facilities to the city - verrrrry nice.
The build is expected to be complete within three years, so not too long to wait for slick cocktails overlooking the city.
