It’s about to get a whole lot colder across Ireland this week with Met Éireann forecasting snow, sleet and widespread frost.
Just when we thought we’d seen the worst of it after a weekend of wind warnings and heavy rain, the weather forecaster has issued a fresh weather warning for the whole week.
The status yellow weather warning says, ‘Very cold this week with scattered wintry showers, frequent across the southwest, west and north.
‘Some accumulations of snow are expected. There will be widespread frost at night with icy stretches on untreated surfaces.
‘There is the possibility of a more significant spell of sleet/snow on Thursday.’

The warning will go into effect at 6am on Tuesday morning and stay in place until Saturday, February 2, at 6pm.
Temperatures are expected to drop as low as -3C this week, with severe frost and ice patched predicted throughout the country tomorrow night and Wednesday morning.
Met Éireann said they would be issuing an update on the yellow status at 10am on Tuesday morning.
Over the weekend, Midlands Weather said that some of the country will experience "some accumulations of snow" this week.
In a post on their Facebook page, they wrote, ‘Indeed, some parts of the north and northwest, including the north Midlands May see some accumulations of snow at time between Sunday night and Wednesday. Temperatures by day will only range between 2-4 degrees in northern areas, but closer to 6-7 in more southern areas.
‘Beyond that our weather looks set to remain unsettled, with temperatures below average for the time of year, night frosts and some ice, with a continued risk of some wintry precipitation, especially across the north, northwest and over higher ground.’
