'Twas a frosty one alright.
It may seem that Met Éireann has been issuing the same warning for a while now - 'today will be the coldest yet' - but temperatures hit a new low this morning with forecasters confirming that it dropped to -8 degrees celsius in places.

cold start to the day, with temperatures in the past hour ranging from +5 to -8°C!"

Adding that temperatures will slowly start to rise as the day goes on, Met Éireann has confirmed that it will still be "well below zero for most across the country". As good a reason as any to stay in and spend the day wrapped up on the couch, hot chocolate in hand.
Things weren't any warmer up in Northern Ireland overnight either where it was "the coldest night since the big freeze of December 2010". It was - as Barra Best put it - "baltic".

AA Roadwatch has also urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads, telling people to "take care if making an essential journey this morning as roads are icy across the country".
