Meath Couple Ordered To Demolish House They’ve Lived In For 10 Years

A Meath couple have been ordered to demolish the home that their family have lived in for ten years due to a lack of planning permission.

The Murray family bought the site from a farmer back in 2006 and applied for planning permission to build a home for themselves and their three children.

When permission was refused by Meath County Council, the company proceeded with the build regardless - constructing a 588sq metre house in Bohermeen.

According to The Irish Independent, the family have since been brought to court and panel of five Supreme Court judges have ruled that the house is in "flagrant breach of the planning laws".

Despite arguments over the personal hardship that losing the home would bring to the family, the judges upheld a decision that the house must be demolished.

Meath County Council has said that it will not ask the family to cover its legal costs if the property is demolished within a year.
