Leo Varadkar has urged the public to stop sharing unverified messages on WhatsApp after a spate of misinformation was spread over the weekend.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has tweeted to ask people not to share unverified WhatsApp messages after a number of instances over the weekend. Users of the app had received forwarded messages which Varadkar says are 'scaring and confusing people'.
In a tweet posted this morning, Varadkar has said 'I am urging everyone to please stop sharing unverified info on WhatsApp groups. These messages are scaring and confusing people and causing real damage. Please get your info from official, trusted sources.'

He goes on to list reliable sources of information on Covid-19 such as the HSE, WHO, the official Government account on Twitter (
Merrion Street) and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Yesterday, it was
decided that all pubs would close until March 29. This followed up on
Thursday's announcement that schools and colleges would be shut until the same date.
