The new hotel would be six storeys.

  Kildare Village, Tesco, and others have objected to planning for a new six-storey hotel on the Monasterevin Road in Kildare town. Murlyn Capital Investments Ltd lodged plans with Kildare County Council for a hotel on a site at the junction of Nurney Road and Monasterevin Road at Kildare, which would adjoin to the Kildare Village outlet site. The planning application on the Kildare County Council site seeks permission for a "development on this 3,574 sqm site" which will consist of a "158 bedroom Hotel, in a 6 storey block". The hotel will have a "ground floor public bar", an "independent café / restaurant" and other amenities such as a "spa area" "set down area" and "basement comprising 59 car parking spaces." While the developers have argued the site is perfect for a hotel and will draw in tourism to the Kildare area, The Irish Times reports that Tesco and Kildare Village have objected to the plans on the grounds that it could "result in an overspill" into their car parks, thereby having a negative effect on those businesses. The planning is certainly divisive; according to The Irish Times, while the Monasterevin Road Residents Association have also objected to the plans, Curragh Racecourse have submitted their support for the hotel as it will provide more accommodation for their customers.
