"Our internal review process was not properly followed."

  Fast-food chain KFC have issued an apology for a misguided email promotion that encouraged customers to purchase from them to remember Kristallnacht. According to screenshots shared online, the app alert said, "Memorial day for the Reich pogrom night. Treat yourself to more tender cheese on your crispy chicken. Now at KFCheese!" The company quickly received backlash for the post with many citing it as insensitive and inappropriate. In a statement to the Jerusalem Post, KFC in Germany apologised for the message:

"We use a semi-automated content creation process linked to calendars that include national observances.

"In this instance, our internal review process was not properly followed, resulting in a non-approved notification being shared."

The alert was sent out on Wednesday November 9th, which was the 84th anniversary of Kristallnacht, a night in 1938 where thousands of Jewish businesses were vandalised by the Nazis in Germany and Austria.
