Kerry County Council is investigating reports of a rat problem in the town of Causeway after a local resident spotted the rodents "swinging off the branches of trees” near her house.

Causeway native Amy Goggin said she first spotted the rats over two years ago - and now they've made a chilling return.

Speaking to Radio Kerry, she said her seven-year-old daughter witnessed the animals acting "like monkeys, swinging from branch to branch".

The mother-of-two added that she felt trapped in her own home.

"Even this morning, my little girl going out the door to school, I had to open the front door and she stood behind me until I walked out first. She was scared to go out.”

Kerry county council confirmed to Radio Kerry that they have received a report and are investigating the issue.
