In 2000, Ireland topped the EU list for the countries with the heaviest drinking population, and while we haven't been at the top for quite some time (alcohol consumption in Ireland dropped by a quarter between 2000 and 2014), we're now officially not even in the top ten.
Belgian beats us by a mile thanks to their some 1600 varieties of beer, while wine loving France comes in second place.
