Irish Rail has released a video showing just how often people put themselves in serious danger at level crossings, and called for more vigilance.
The clip shows lowering barriers getting stuck on a number of vehicles, others crashing straight through, and people injuring themselves as they try to make it across in time.
Irish Rail said there have already been 51 accidents this year – a massive 81% increase on the same period in 2018.

Lansdowne Road, Serpentine Avenue and Sydney Parade are some of the most commonly hit, while Sutton Station takes the top spot, having already been hit 10 times this year.
The Iarnród Éireann network has 948 level crossings around Ireland, although they are working to eliminate as many as possible and 63 of them were removed between 2014 and 2018.
Luas operator Transdev
also recently released CCTV footage of some very close calls to remind motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to be aware when navigating the city.
On their official Twitter account, they wrote, 'Seconds could change your life. Luas reminds all motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to be aware of surroundings at all times. ALWAYS look left and right and NEVER break a red light.'
