Irish People Spend A Shocking Amount Of Money On Their Kid’s First Communion

Irish parents are coughing up a huge €845 on average for their little sprog's First Holy Communion, the Ulster Bank Communion study revealed this year.

The biggest cost is the price of food and drinks for the party, with an average spend of €388 in 2017, a 5% increase from last year.

Fancy outfits also empty the pockets, with parents spending €185 on the kids and €153 on other members of the family.

As for how much the youngsters are raking in? It's enough to make you wish you could do the charade all over again, with girls receiving an average of €550 and boys €591, showing that even the holy spirit is affected by the gender gap.

Ulster Bank’s Chris Wilson said that it's important children learn how to save money and learn financial planning skills.

“Children pick up financial habits from a really young age, so we’re delighted to see that 85% of children making their Communion this year will put some of their money into a savings account and for over a quarter of them, it will be their first ever account,” he said.
