Ireland’s Minimum Wage Is Set To Increase From New Year’s Day

As confirmed in October's Budget, Ireland's minimum wage is being raised by 30c an hour to €9.55.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar made the announcement some five months ago, revealing that the new fare will be brought in by January 2018. 

Minimum wage workers will notice a rise in their paycheques from this week. 

Labour spokesperson on Worker’s Rights, Senator Ged Nash, has welcomed the news:

He said: “While modest, the Low Pay Commission’s recommendation to increase the rate by 30 cent an hour to €9.55 is a welcome but very small step in the right direction."

The living wage in Ireland is now estimated at €11.70, almost a third higher than the current minimum wage. 

Minimum wage workers will now have an extra €12 on average in their wallets every week, or a combined €624 a year.
