

The least sunny location in Ireland has been revealed, and no, it's not the whole country in general.
While Ireland is famous for its stunning coast and historical landmarks, it’s also renowned for its dull, dreary, damp weather.
But this town in County Mayo apparantly takes the cake.
After analysing Met Éireann's sunshine data last year, Buckley Electrical has revealed that Ireland’s least sunniest location is Belmullet.
Kieran Buckley, Founder of Buckley Electrical, said the findings highlight just how the country's sunshine levels really do vary depending on location, and how our perception of daylight doesn't necessarily paint the whole picture.
Met Éireann’s Monthly Climate Statements compared locations based on their average monthly sunshine across 2025 and how frequently they recorded the lowest monthly totals.
While its not the least sunny on average (that’s Valentia, County Kerry), Belmullet is the dullest place in terms of frequency.
“What’s interesting is that even in these locations, there’s still consistent daylight every single month, which has big implications when it comes to solar power," commented Mr Buckley.
I mean, at least there’s nice beaches...
