Look, we won't be heading to the World Cup in 2018 and focus must now move on to qualifying for the Euros in 2020.
But, there is no point losing heart in the Boys in Green just yet. They will play the old enemies, France, in an international friendly before the World Cup kicks off in June but their next international fixture might be of interest to those who do not care one ounce for the beautiful game.

Ireland will face Turkey in Antalya in March. Many Footballing heads will remember that Turkey were the team that stopped us reaching the Euros in 2000. A Lee Carsley handball in the first leg followed by an almighty scoreless draw brawl in the second meant that the Turks went on to qualify thanks to the away-goal rule.
It is only a friendly after all but the chance to head on an unreal holiday while also cheering on Ireland could be a great shout as a first holiday for 2018.
The location where the match is taking place was voted the fifth least expensive (€51.84) holiday destination in the world when it comes to the average price of a basket of goods and services (hotel, food, drink, taxi, tours and entertainment).
You can enjoy mountains, mysterious caves and beautiful beaches in March temperatures which soar as high as 20 degrees. That's not too shabby for the middle of spring...
So what if it's only a short trip, it won't take too long to see the Düden Waterfalls, Antalya Museum, and/or the Clock Tower.
