Hallelujah – Ireland’s First Floating Hotel Still To Go Ahead

Ireland's very first floating hotel, which will be based on Cork's city quays, will still go ahead despite delays with council permissions.

The Irish Examiner reports that Sam Corbett, the man behind the 'botel', had hoped to have the luxury cruise vessel ready to go by August, but that questions from council planners regarding sinks, showers and the boat's wastewater meant the project was delayed.

The vessel which Corbett plans to buy for the floating hotel has room for over 180 people, with a restaurant, panorama bar, sundeck and - best of all - a heated pool.

“We need to get work started as soon as possible. I would hope to have the vessel in place, and open, before the end of the year", Corbett said. 

It could cost up to €2.25 million to buy the vessel, with another estimated €1 million to get it ready for guests.

“It would be great for the city", Corbett told the Irish Examiner.

“Cork needs more hotel beds, and something unusual, like this, something quirky, the city needs this kind of diversity.”
