Ireland Is Now One Of The World’s Biggest Takeaway Consumers

We all love a chipper now and then, or maybe even some Thai noodles or a little personal pizza. Or a curry. Or a burrito. Or, or anything really, we're actually takeaway obsessed.

And now Ireland has placed at No.8 in the world's biggest takeaway consumers by Euromonitor, with the high ranking blamed on falling unemployment rates and busy lifestyles.

Italy has clinched the top takeaway loving place, with Japan in second place.

Irish people fork out an average of €56.40 per month on takeaways and home deliveries - an increase of nearly 15%.

Ireland forked out €56.40 per capita on takeaways and home deliveries each month in 2016 – up nearly 15% on the previous year.

Euromonitor said: “Despite high obesity rates in the country, there is a trend of Irish consumers preferring to indulge in unhealthy food when purchasing takeaway food.”
