Investigation Launched Into “Serious Incident” During Aer Lingus Landing in London

An investigation into a "serious incident" during an Aer Lingus landing at London Gatwick airport has commenced.

While full details of the incident have not yet emerged, it is understood that a vehicle entered the active runway after the plane had been given clearance to land. 

It is not clear whether the vehicle entered the runway with or without clearance. 

The incident occurred on February 3 and involved a flight from Lyons to Gatwick with 154 passengers on board. 

The UK’s Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) has launched a probe into what has been rated as a “serious incident”.

An AAIU spokesman confirmed: “The AAIU has appointed an Accredited Representative to provide any assistance which the AAIB may request.”

An Aer Lingus spokesman confirmed the incident took place and that the airline is "co-operating fully with this investigation."
